A Yoga & Subtle Body Retreat

Led by Holly Purdy, Suzy Aragon and Brandy Berlin

Hosted by Blue Osa Resort in Costa Rica

December 2-9, 2023

If you know you’d love some sun on your face and sand between your toes come December, join us at the Evoke LOVE Yoga and Subtle Body Retreat, December 2-9, 2023, where we will live nature’s healing wisdom in beautiful Costa Rica.

The magic takes place amidst the enchanting nature of Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula – a haven of wild beauty and awe-inspiring landscapes.

Nestled within the embrace of the jungle and the ocean, the Blue Osa Eco Retreat Center will be our sanctuary throughout this transformative experience. Known for its hospitality and surrounded by the magic of nature, this retreat center will create the perfect space for us to harmonize our body with nature's cadence, commune with our practices, and embrace the joyousness of our bodies — and each other.

Each day will offer yoga as both exercise and “innercise” with two daily nourishing yoga asana classes, one in the morning and another in the early evening before dinner.  We will offer a full spectrum of physical and energetic practices including vinyasa, yin, and subtle energy yoga, chanting and mantra, reiki, pranayama, meditation, ritual, and the sacred bonds we form as a community. There will also be some optional workshops.

In between, we will explore vibrant beauty indulging in optional activities such as horseback riding, kayaking, surfboarding, and jungle hikes. Nature will be our companion and guide, supporting us as we cultivate whole-self habits that enliven our bodies, minds, and hearts.

Amidst the rhythm of our retreat, there will also be ample chill time for reflection and personal space. It is in these moments that we integrate the transformative experiences of each day and deepen our connection with ourselves.

This retreat’s theme is inspired by the teachings of Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés and her remarkable work, "The Joyous Body”. (You are most welcome to listen to her original recordings prior to your retreat, but it is not at all required.) Different from simple cliches about embodiment and self-love, in this retreat we will “rediscover the profound truth that the body is not merely a servant, but a divine fellow traveler and consort, a Radiant Being in its own right, ever ready to protect, guide, and support us on the journey of the soul.”

Through somatic practices and playful traditional storytelling, we will explore the ancient knowledge that unveil the power and beauty of the body, celebrating its sacredness, innate wisdom and wholeness. We will utilize the ‘power of the pause’ to better know and care for our body’s needs. We will cultivate deep and loving discernment and you will leave this retreat with tools you can easily integrate into your daily life – so you can decide day-to-day and moment-to-moment what your loyal companion needs to be joyous.

It’s said that we are the Universe experiencing itself, so let's come together to embrace and celebrate the natural bliss of our body in deep gratitude for this life given to us to live – wholly, holy.

Our week together will go a little something like this…

Rise with the sun and enjoy a rejuvenating vinyasa/subtle energy yoga/breath/meditation practice instructed by Holly or Brandy to awaken the body and mind. Eat fresh food. Wander the beach. Swim in the pool. Take in the views and sounds of the wildlife. Breathe in the fresh ocean air. Rest away your afternoon with a book in hand. Enjoy a massage at the spa. Partake in any number of epic side trips to the local national parks, excursions, etc. Enjoy an afternoon/early evening yin yoga and reiki practice with Suzy or Brandy. Then, more delicious, healthy food. And repeat!

This retreat is carefully designed to alleviate stress, inspire connection, and nourish the mind, body, and soul. Our physical practice will focus on releasing tension and awakening energy to foster balance within. We will explore supportive Asana poses, pranayama (breathwork), meditation and mantra.

We’ll refuel with fresh food, mindful conversations, great company, and soul replenishing yoga. If you’re craving a deep unwind and total reset, this week in the jungle by the beach is for you!

about your teachers

Holly

Holly found her way to yoga almost twenty years ago. She was hooked by how the practice made her feel welcome in her body and mind; something she had never really experienced before. She continued to practice and deepen her relationship with yoga as she obtained her Master’s Degree in Education. Throughout her time as an English teacher, she always found ways to offer yoga to her students and fellow school teachers. Teaching and connecting with others through yoga and movement has always come very naturally to her, and has been well received by all with whom she has worked.

After taking her 200hr training and becoming certified in 2016, she seized an opportunity to open her own yoga studio in her home of Whitefish, Montana. Now, almost forty and more than 700 hours of yoga training under her belt, she has found that one of the most rewarding parts of her work is building community through trainings and retreats. She lives for sharing her love of yoga, chanting, singing, movement, and creating community and connection among those she has the privilege of calling her students and friends.

Her classes are typically a balanced mixture of meditation, breathwork, mantra, philosophy, music, and intentional/ devotional movement. She lives to make a good playlist and seeks to bring joy, wellbeing, strength, soul, and connection into her yoga classes.

Her intention for this retreat is to help participants deeply unwind and align into nature and to fall back in love with our bodies. You can expect some rejuvenating vinyasa and movement with equal parts pranayama, mantra, and meditation.

SUZY

Suzy has been a dedicated Yoga Teacher and practitioner for over ten years. While she dabbled in Yoga since college it wasn’t until attending nursing school and experiencing a difficult divorce that she really found Yoga and started practicing regularly. The practice helped her to release anger and build -inner and outer-strength and resilience that she could use to get through anything. The physical Asana practice got Suzy hooked yet she quickly realized the inner benefits were even more impactful and that the path of yoga was so much more than the physical postures. Suzy is an experienced 500 hour Registered Yoga Teacher and has been teaching Yoga since graduating from her first 200 hour teacher training in 2012. Suzy is a co-founder of Love Yoga and Evoke Energy Yoga,  has led two Yoga Teacher trainings, opened two yoga  studios and has co-facilitated countless additional programs and trainings.

Suzy is also the founder and owner of SoulFULL REIKI & Yoga and is a level II Reiki practitioner and Registered Nurse of 15 years. Additionally she is co-founder and co-owner of Evoke Energy Yoga. She is deeply passionate about serving others and is a healer at heart. Suzy teaches Yin yoga, Vinyasa, Healing flow, VinYin, Yoga Nidra and Meditation. In her classes she believes in addressing the whole person which encompasses the physical body, mind, emotions and spirit because “we have a body-yet we are not just our body”. Her classes are a range of slow and meditative to challenging and sweaty. She teaches with intention and connection and her classes and offerings are accessible, inclusive and relatable. Suzy strives to teach a holistic and comprehensive yoga experience that reflects the deeper teachings and wisdom of yoga and loves to weave in hands-on assists and healing touch in her classes.

Suzy spent most of her young adult life in Bend Oregon where she attended nursing school and received most of her Yoga and Reiki training. Shortly after having her daughter she moved to Montana with her partner to raise their daughter in a smaller community and to experience a “slower pace of life”. In Suzy’s free time she can be found playing with her daughter, paddling mountain lakes, foraging, tending to her garden, practicing & teaching yoga & reiki, camping and soaking up all Montana has to offer- especially the summer sun.

It is Suzy’s true passion to offer Yoga to anybody and everybody. She has received so much knowledge, wisdom and life experience as a result of practicing and teaching yoga that it is her life's mission to share it with others.

BRANDY

Brandy is a lifelong educator and first learned about yoga in her history textbooks. Years later as a young teaching professional, she began to practice yoga asana during her lunch hour at a nearby gym to help manage her stress, depression and anger. It didn’t take long to realize her high schoolers would be better prepared to learn if they too used yoga to address their stress and anxiety. Brandy slowly began infusing mindfulness and nervous system regulation techniques into her curriculum. She and her students felt the positive impact, and if she had a dollar for each time she heard, “My mom needs this!”— she would have some dollars.

Brandy attended her first yoga teacher training in 2011, completed her 200 hour in 2014, and is currently an E-RYT 500 yoga teacher. In 2016, Brandy transitioned from public schools to co-ownership of Namaspa Yoga Community and co-founded the Namaspa Foundation, a non-profit that brings yoga to schools, jails, and recovery programs. Brandy is also the co-founder and co-owner of Brash Yoga and Evoke Energy Yoga. With over 25 years teaching experience in a variety of settings, Brandy is most in her svadharma when she is having fun and sharing it while invoking "awe"-ha moments.

In 2022, Brandy stepped away from Namaspa and is now focused on creating curriculum that applies critical thinking to the yoga and wellness industry and to teaching slow, gentle, strength and balance-building, and often silly asana specifically for nervous system resilience. Originally trained as a power vinyasa and yin yoga teacher, Brandy uses the wisdom she’s earned to lead classes, trainings and retreats that are truly accessible to all kinds of bodies. She invites her students to approach their practice with wonder, curiosity, compassion, reverence, and joy. It should also be noted that laughter through tears is her favorite emotion.

Blessed to be flanked by an adorable ginger husband and two tailless cats, you'll often find her basking in beauty on woody trails, her paddleboard and little orange scooter in bountiful Bend, Oregon.
